Why do we use The Functional Movement Screen?
The FMS identify’s movement dysfunction and enables us to observe fundamental movement patterns and assess them. The screen allows us to observe basic, mobility and stability movements by placing clients in positions where weaknesses, imbalances, asymmetries and limitations become obvious.
The human body is a master at compensation, the screen helps us to uncover these compensatory movements. It will allow us to integrate corrective exercises into your routine to help you move better. Gray Cook, creator of FMS says, “Move Well. Move Often.” If you aren’t moving well and placing load on top of dysfunction, likely an injury can/will occur.
With this screening tool, we can focus on the weakest link. Which, most likely will clean up other movements/dysfunction. Our goal is to optimize movements and then move often so we can load and progress to make you stronger and more powerful.
The FMS is beneficial for clients and athletes and will help optimize movement to help discover which patterns are problematic. Whether your goal is to move better as an athlete or in general, knowledge of how you move will help you reach the next level.
