Why do we warm up? We all have those clients/athletes that HATE warming up. However, after you show them the method to the madness, they have an “ah ha” moment, they realize how great they feel and how their performance has improved.
The warm up helps prepare your body for activity, neural function, blood flow, of course a big one…INJURY FACTOR. We want your body ready to go so we minimize injury, make you stronger and move optimally. Now the warm up for our clients (general population) versus our athletes is slightly different just based off of intensity and the goals. In retrospect, our clients/athletes are all foam rolling, they are all doing mobility (specific based on the individual), breathing and activation exercises and dynamic drills (varies based on the individual).
Every coach has a different style and approach to warm up but it still should be a staple. We have a specific method that works and we have seen and felt for ourselves first hand results. Brendan Rearick, Co-Founder of Movement as Medicine and Certified Functional strength Coach, has an excellent course “Exercise Checklist” the goal he is trying to achieve is to make sure our health, fitness, strength and conditioning, sports realm has higher standards for coaches and trainers. We must understand WHY we are doing what we do. Not only that but to make your job a lot easier, being able to duplicate your business without overdoing it.

We promise it is worth the added 20-30 minutes in the beginning of training to warm up. Your body will thank you in the end.
